"The Beauty Mark" by Jerry Taylor
"The Beauty Mark" by Jerry Taylor
“It may seem odd to call a mole in the center of a woman's forehead a beauty mark but it was distinctive. The little children gathered around her as if she were the grandmother of them all. She is a gypsy living in the poverty of the community with an obvious smile and loud laughter, that was six years ago. I saw her today lying on her death bed in the shack she calls home. Her son was with her; he had tears in his eyes. She recognized me, smiled, and said through a translator, "You took my picture years ago and I remember where I was standing." Her son looked at me and said, "Thank you." She had lost weight and her eyes were sunken, but she still smiled and asked us to pray for her. We did. I hope we will meet again.”
Jerry Taylor and his wife Sylvia have participated in many trips with Remember the Children. Over the years, Jerry’s skill of photography has been a gift as he observed and captured moments that added a depth of meaning and understanding. We are thankful for the generous donation of 12 of Jerry’s pieces to raise funds for orphan care and church planting in Romania and Tanzania. 11 of the 12 are framed between sheets of glass with open edging and attached wire. The dimensions for all pieces are 17’’ by 23’’ including the mat and frame.
Jerry is a retired Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist and a former educator and administrator in both public and private schools. He also taught Photography in Harford Community College's Continuing Education Program.
He currently shoots with a Nikon D850 and assorted Nikon lenses; he also uses the Nikon Coolpix P1000 super zoom.
