"The Concrete Pietà" by Jerry Taylor
"The Concrete Pietà" by Jerry Taylor
“I have never seen any statue of the Pietà. This was photographed in front of a Roman Catholic Church in Oradea, Romania. I imagine the original marble is smooth and beautiful to see. This Pietà is not smooth — in fact it is rough to the touch and weather worn. Regardless of the texture the message is the same; Jesus the Christ is dead in the arms of his mother. When I think of any child dying prior to a parent I feel emotional. Mary and Jesus knew why he was born to flesh and blood. My emotional response is now one of gratitude.”
Jerry Taylor and his wife Sylvia have participated in many trips with Remember the Children. Over the years, Jerry’s skill of photography has been a gift as he observed and captured moments that added a depth of meaning and understanding. We are thankful for the generous donation of 12 of Jerry’s pieces to raise funds for orphan care and church planting in Romania and Tanzania. 11 of the 12 are framed between sheets of glass with open edging and attached wire. The dimensions for all pieces are 17’’ by 23’’ including the mat and frame.
Jerry is a retired Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist and a former educator and administrator in both public and private schools. He also taught Photography in Harford Community College's Continuing Education Program.
He currently shoots with a Nikon D850 and assorted Nikon lenses; he also uses the Nikon Coolpix P1000 super zoom.
