I have so many memories of Thanksgiving from my years as a child at home. Any chance we had to go to Grandma and Grandpa’s house was a time my siblings and I treasured. Grandma was an amazing cook and there are several of her creations I can still taste through my memories of years ago. But a memory that is clearer than ever is the time we would all gather around the table that was covered with delicious food to celebrate a time for being thankful. As I remember those days that have passed all too quickly, I am mindful of how thankful I am for the family that God has blessed me with.
Last week in Tabora, Tanzania, a family was born. Nathan and Aisha were welcomed to their new home, and soon ten children whose futures had been uncertain now found themselves in the security of a new family. It is emotional to watch the arrival of the children into their new world of uncertainty, but their new reality will soon change the expressions of fear to smiles of joy.
I have watched the beginnings of these families as a bystander stealing a glimpse of the miracles that God creates in the lives of these children through the blessing of a family. They come hungry with little or no possessions and soon find themselves with parents, a bed to sleep, clean clothes to wear, plenty of food to eat, and the opportunity for a good education all within the safety of a loving Christian family.
This month I am especially thankful for you. You are God’s agent of working His miracles as you give to the ministry of Remember the Children. As you look at the picture of this beautiful family, I hope you will give thanks for what God has done through you to give new beginnings to ten precious children.
This Thanksgiving there will be a new family gathering around a table in Tanzania with plenty to eat because of your generosity. I hope you will take this story and maybe share the picture of the family and stop and say a prayer of Thanksgiving for the miracles that are continuing to happen through the love of God’s people. I am thankful for you today and as I pray a prayer of thanksgiving for Nathan and Aisha with all their new kids, I will also be praying a prayer of thanksgiving for you. Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving!
