“Home in the Landfill” by Jerry Taylor
“This family of gypsies, one of several, were living at the dump in Oradea, Romania. Their makeshift home was about 12x15 made-up of materials they salvaged from other people's garbage. The wife and mother is not in the picture. In 2020 all the gypsy families were evicted from the dump. They lost their homes and their livelihood, selling salvaged trash, in one swift move by the city. Gypsies in Romania are the poorest of the poor.”
Jerry Taylor and his wife Sylvia have participated in many trips with Remember the Children. Over the years, Jerry’s skill of photography has been a gift as he observed and captured moments that added a depth of meaning and understanding. We are thankful for the generous donation of 12 of Jerry’s pieces to raise funds for orphan care and church planting in Romania and Tanzania. 11 of the 12 are framed between sheets of glass with open edging and attached wire. The dimensions for all pieces are 17’’ by 23’’ including the mat and frame.
Jerry is a retired Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist and a former educator and administrator in both public and private schools. He also taught Photography in Harford Community College's Continuing Education Program.
He currently shoots with a Nikon D850 and assorted Nikon lenses; he also uses the Nikon Coolpix P1000 super zoom.
