It is amazing how God can knit our hearts together through relationship. Over twenty years ago, I never imagined how my initial experience in Romania would transform my heart. In just a matter of a few weeks, I found a love deep within me that I did not know existed. For me it was simply encountering orphaned children and stepping into their world and allowing myself to be open to a relationship with them.

Through the years I have had many meaningful relationships with various children who simply needed the presence of an adult to love, encourage, and to help them find their way through life. Many of the children I invested my life into during those early years are now parents themselves raising their children in a loving and life-giving way.

It was through our involvement in Romania, that my wife and I felt challenged to go deeper and to adopt children into our own family. We have been blessed to have done that, and through that experience we have found a deeper understanding of the value of family. Family is a gift. Family is the place where we find our initial acceptance, our needed love and nurture, and the guidance we need to move forward in life. Seeing how the absence of these life-giving attributes changes the development of children, I have personally found it important to help as much as I am able.

Our family presently sponsors three beautiful people through the Remember the Children program. Alexandria is a young lady Remember the Children helped with medical needs several years ago. Through that process, a relationship was formed, and it has been our pleasure to help her grow up in a loving Christian family in Romania. Monica brought Cristina to our after-school program in a village we serve. Monica asked to sign up as well to improve in her reading and writing so she could help Cristina with her homework. This was a beautiful gesture by a mom for a daughter, and our family has been happy to provide for Monica’s tutoring. I met Agnes on my first trip to Tanzania. I felt like she chose me through her smile, but it has been our joy to sponsor her support through the family homes in Tanzania.
